Astronomy and Astrophysics Vlba Observations of Ghz-peaked-spectrum Radio Sources at 15 Ghz
We present VLBA observations at 15 GHz of ten GHz Peaked Spectrum (GPS) radio sources. The cores are often difficult or impossible to locate. When likely cores are found, they account for a small fraction of the flux density in GPS galaxies around or below 2%, while in GPS quasars they can account for more than 20% of the total flux density. We detect low polarization in the GPS sources – i.e.,...
متن کاملMeasuring the Hubble Constant from Ryle Telescope and X - ray observations , with application to Abell 1413
We describe our algorithm for measuring the Hubble constant from Ryle Telescope (RT) interferometric observations of the Sunyaev-Zel’dovich (SZ) effect from a galaxy cluster and observation of the cluster X-ray emission. We analyse the error budget in this method: as well as radio and X-ray random errors, we consider the effects of clumping and temperature differences in the cluster gas, of the...
متن کاملObservations of AGN with the First VERITAS Telescope
The first VERITAS (Very Energetic Radiation Imaging Telescope Array System) telescope has been in operation at the basecamp of the Whipple Observatory since January 2005. Here we present initial observations of AGN made using this telescope. Although this is engineering data, significant detections of Markarian 421 and Markarian 501 have been achieved.
متن کاملMapping of the SZ effect in the cluster Cl 0016+16 with the Ryle Telescope
We have mapped the high-redshift (z = 0.546) cluster Cl 0016+16 with the Ryle Telescope at 15 GHz. The Sunyaev–Zel’dovich decrement is clearly detected, and resolved. We combine our data with an X-ray image from ROSAT, and a gas temperature from ASCA to estimate the Hubble Constant H0 = 69+21 −16 km s −1 Mpc−1 for an ΩM = 1.0 cosmology or H0 = 84+25 −19 km s −1 Mpc−1 for ΩM = 0.3 and ΩΛ = 0.7.
متن کاملCosmological evolution of compact AGN at 15 GHz
Aims. We study the uniformity of the distribution of compact flat-spectrum AGN on the sky and the evolution of their relativistic jets with cosmic epoch. Methods. A complete sample of compact extragalactic radio sources at 15 GHz was recently compiled to conduct the MOJAVE program. The MOJAVE sample comprises 133 radio-loud flat-spectrum AGN with compact relativistic outflows detected at parsec...
